You may not know this but blogging is a key tool to search engine optimization and getting your company name out there. It can also be as important when advertising in your local community. It gets information out there to share with potential clients, locals. And we all know Google loves content. So what are some ways that blogging can help with advertising in your local community?

Blog About Frequently Asked Questions

Give customers a knowledgebase per se of your business’s frequently asked questions. And I’m not just talking about a frequently asked questions page on your website, you can have that too. I mean creating a blog post for each question and going over it in detail to answer any questions a visitor might have. Answering peoples questions in advance will help them build trust in your business.

For example, if you’re a flower shop, blog about how to make fresh cut flowers last longer. This will be something your customer can come back and look at later if they forgot your verbal instructions. Your customers will begin to appreciate you and your efforts put forth to answer their questions online.

Here’s a great article I found for blog post ideas, 60 Blog Post Ideas For Entrepreneurs, Marketers, And Businesses. You’ll see that ‘answering frequently asked questions’ is #21 on the list.

Blog About Local Cities in the Area

To target local cities in the area you could blog about something specific for that local city. For instance, being a flower shop, you could blog about the most popular ‘springtime’ flowers to buy in Los Angeles CA. That way you are targeting local cities in the area and building up those keywords in your blog posts.

You could do a similar blog post for another city. Like, 5 flowers you can buy for Valentine’s Day in Thousand Oaks CA. You get the point. Now that you write about these cities in your blog posts you should start to see an increase in your SEO rankings.

You might also want to create landing pages for each local city you plan on targeting. You can always link to and from your ‘city-specific’ blog posts to these landing pages.

All of this does work as you can see from my personal website that I rank for the keywords “Thousand Oaks SEO” for my blog post titled Thousand Oaks SEO – Tips to Getting on Google in Thousand Oaks, CA. And I also wrote an article titled Los Angeles SEO – 4 Best SEO Strategies to Rank in Los Angeles, CA that I’m currently optimizing.

Blogging and Social Media

Blogging also helps you get discovered on social media. Every time you write a blog post, you’re creating content that people can share on social networks. This helps expand your business to new audiences that may not know about your business yet.

Make sure to use hashtags as you post your content, this will help expand your reach. You can find popular hashtags for your keyword(s) on best-hashtags.com. So for the flower shop as an example, here would be a great example of flower shop hashtags to use for posting your content.

Blogging Builds Backlinks

As you keep on blogging you’ll eventually get natural links back to your blog. These backlinks will help your rankings with the search engines. And move your blog posts up in the search results. It may take a while for you to start getting noticed and developing backlinks. But what’s more important is that you are helping the locals in your community and eventually you’ll begin to expand.

Blogging Drives Traffic

All these things mentioned above will help drive traffic to your website. Definition of search engine optimization…

The process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.

The key to getting more traffic lies in integrating content with search engine optimization and social media marketing.

By helping your local community and answering their questions online you’ll begin to see your traffic spike in Google Analytics. Traffic is another key element to your search engine optimization. By establishing traffic on your website or blog you are telling Google that you have valuable information and Google will end up ranking you higher in the search engine.

Blogging Establishes Your Authority

Not only does blogging establish your authority with Google but with your users as well. Which in my mind is more important. As it’s the users you will be converting into customers. And you being in an authority position will only bring positive things your way from both standpoints.

Blogging Builds Trust

With good relevant content, traffic, authority, and trust you’re in a win-win situation when it comes to optimizing your company blog and converting your users to customers. With trust, comes customers, returning customers, good reviews, and customer referrals.

Trust goes a long way in any industry and is one of the main reasons why your conversion rates will skyrocket.
