Below is a step by step guide of how to add a nofollow link to a WordPress image.
After inserting the image onto your WordPress post or page. Click on the image and then click on the first icon to edit the image as shown in the example below.
Click on the “Advanced Settings” tab and under the section “Advanced Link Settings” for the field “Link Rel” type in the word “nofollow” (without the quotation marks) as shown in the example below. Then click “Update”. The image link URL will now be tagged as nofollow to inform the search engines not to follow the link to its landing page.
How to check if the link is tagged nofollow?
Preview your post or page. Using your mouse, right-click on the post or page and click “View page source”. Find the image URL link to see that it was tagged nofollow. Below is an example of a nofollow URL link.
